So you have up to 140 characters you can type - what do you tweet?
If you are new to Twitter it can be rather overwhelming to read through the jumble of messages people post up. To be honest a lot of it may seem irrelevant or verbal fumblings as people try to work out what this is all about.
A suggested starting point
I would suggest you treat twitter as if you were invited to a great big party. Imagine what you would do:
- Search for somebody you might know (Twitter Search)
- Find people who are into the things that interest you (Search Topics then follow people that interest you)
- Listen to folks - so you begin to get to know them (Read carefully)
- Compliment people (Reply)
- Let them know when you agree with something they say (Re-tweet)
- Ask a question about something that genuinely interests you (tweet)
What to avoid
Taking the idea of the party, imagine the things that people do that would annoy you - Here are a few of my own:
- Talk about their business
- Bang on about their products and services
- Don't listen or ignore what you have to say
- Being rude or swearing
- Talk about things that are completely irrelevant or mundane
