I'm sure most of you will know that you can store a particular website page as a 'favorite' (please excuse the American spelling - but that's how it is for so-called english versions of Internet Explorer.) When it is saved you can click on the
icon in the toolbar along the top and a side panel listing your 'memorised' web pages will open up. Just single click on any link on the left and hey presto your page is loaded.
Let's begin with a very quick simple tip. One quick way to save a favorite is to click on the icon just left of the http bit of the address at the top, drag the icon over the
icon and let go of the mouse button. (You can open up the favorites side panel just to check it actually worked if you wish)
However - I think it's a bit of a shame we have to lose a large chunk of our website viewing area to the side panel for the favorites, so I'm going to share with you the way I save my favorites using the Links menu.
What I do is use folders in the Links bar along the top - Each folder is a category and when I click on the folder it drops down a list of memorised links. Using this technique allows me to access many favorites without needing to give up any of my precious viewing area to the favorites side panel.Position the Links Menu
The first step is to locate and position the links menu.
1. Right Click in a blank grey area of your toolbar at the top right.
2. Ensure that Links is ticked and that Lock the Toolbar is not ticked by clicking on them
3. Now look for the faint dotted line just left of the word Links
4. Click and drag the dotted line and snap it into place on the top menu row in the wasted space just right of the word Help
5. When you are happy with the position Right click the tool bar and Lock the Toolbar
6. Now remove all the standard links by right clicking and deleting each icon until they are all gone.
7. Open the 8. Name the folder a category e.g. fun or holidays
9. Your new folder should appear indented one column right to the Links folder (If it is in the same column, just drag and drop it into the Links folder) You'll know when it's in the right place when you see the yellow folder appear along the top of your toolbar.
Tip: Keep the folder names short and you'll fit more across the top side by side.
10. When you have finished making your main categories just click the
to close the side panel.
10. When you have finished making your main categories just click the
11. Now here comes the fun bit - To add a favorite to your category just drag and drop the icon just left of the http in the address bar onto the yellow folder.Tip: Once you have the link in your Links list Right click on the link and select Rename if you want to make it easier for you to recognise the page in future.
