We have had calls from worried people about the following screen that suddenly appears after starting up the computer
Is is a Virus or MalWare?
First - let us put your mind at rest - it is a legitimate announcement from Microsoft and has appeared after running windows update. It's a bit disconcerting because if you do not click the OK link and just close the window - you will have no choice but to view the next screen anyway:

What does it mean?
Most folks with a PC use Internet Explorer (icon looks like this
) to surf the Internet. Internet Explorer is a browser that creates the frame around websites with various buttons to navigate, search and access 'favorites'. This message gives you a random choice of other browsers that offer you other ways of surfing around the Internet.
Why did Microsoft do this?
This Windows update is the result of an agreement reached between Microsoft and the European Commission over allegations of anti-competitive behaviour. Click to read Microsoft's Press statement about this ruling
How to Remove it
Click on the start button (bottom left) then select Run...
Type msconfig in the box and click the OK button.
This should open the System Configuration tool in Windows.
Click the tab entitled Startup

Locate the entry browserchoice in the listing and remove the checkmark from that program to ensure that it will not be loaded on the next system startup.
Click OK to submit the change. You can then restart the computer to see that the browser choice screen does not appear again.
You can then prevent this update from installing again by running Windows update then viewing the updates before you install. Depending on your version of Windows you can either uncheck the checkbox and agree not to remind you about this update again - or Right Click and Choose to Hide this Update
